Nelson County Broadband Authority Discusses CVEC Broadband Initiative

The Nelson County Broadband Authority had its first meeting last week since the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative presented plans for an ambitious rural broadband project last month to supervisors, and asked for the county’s help.

The authority’s response: Let’s keep talking.

CVEC’s $110 million initiative is proposed to give 36,000 CVEC electric customers in 14 counties in Central Virginia — including 8,900 in Nelson County — the option of purchasing internet access within five years after the electric cooperative starts building the network.
