The Lynchburg Symposium made its way back to the Hill City after a five-year hiatus Monday to discuss economic development opportunities and future downtown growth and challenges as well as the Downtown 2040 Master Plan.
With about 50 people in attendance and several breakout sessions throughout the day, David Cook, transportation planner with the Virginia Department of Transportation, said the event was a success.
Cook, who also serves on the board for the Downtown Lynchburg Association, said since the last downtown master plan was updated in 2000, between 50 percent and 75 percent of those goals have been realized — from the lower Bluffwalk between Jefferson and Commerce streets to the revitalization of historic vacant buildings.
