Germany-based grocery operator Lidl opened its sixth store in the Richmond area Thursday as the company continues to expand in the U.S., though industry analysts say its has slowed down its initial growth projections.

About a couple hundred shoppers lined up to be the first in the new store at 4700 W. Broad St., about two blocks east of Staples Mill Road on the site of the former Colonial Downs off-track betting parlor.
