As a teen, Nancy Howell Agee tumbled down a small mountain and into an emergency room, beginning a five-decade journey from cancer patient to head of the nation’s hospital association on Sunday.
Agee shared the story of her two-year, five-surgery, crutches- and wheelchair-assisted recovery from a cancer scare during a ceremony to mark the start of her term as chairwoman of the American Hospital Association board.
“The extraordinary care I received as a teenager did even more than help me walk again — it also inspired me,” she said.
