Averett Gets $100,000 Boost To Expand Growing Esports Gaming Program

Averett University received a $100,000 grant from Drs. Frank and Dugan Maddux to bolster its new esports competitive video gaming program, the school announced Thursday.

The university said the money will be used to expand and renovated space for the team and spectators, as well as funding new staff positions.

In November, the university announced it was entering the growing esports world as the only four-year university in Virginia to add the varsity competitive program.

With interest abounding, the program has already outgrown the original space.
