United Way NCA & Region’s Nonprofits Countdown to Do More 24 Day of Giving to #ReclaimKindness

5/7/18

600+ Nonprofits Will Come Together on May 17 to Raise More than $2 Million to Support D.C, Maryland and Virginia’s Most Vulnerable Residents

Starting on Thursday, May 17, more than 600 nonprofits throughout the Metro area will come together for Do More 24, the region’s largest online giving day, powered by United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA).

Do More 24 will take place during a 24-hour period beginning at 12 noon on May 17 to 12 noon on May 18 and is expected to raise more than $2 million.

Residents throughout the area are more engaged than ever and are looking for ways to make a difference. During Do More 24, the local nonprofit community will come together with an urgent action for area residents to #ReclaimKindness by thinking and giving locally.

“We know that dramatic budget cuts and changes to the tax laws will affect our local nonprofits, so many organizations are moving forward in trepidation, focusing in on individual donors for support to fill in financial gaps,” said Rosie Allen-Herring, President and Chief Executive Officer for United Way of the National Capital Area. “Individual donors are making their voices heard – they’re leading by example by setting aside their political beliefs, stewarding civility and reclaiming kindness by donating to organizations that are making a difference. If there were ever a time to dig a little deeper and support any number of these hundreds of causes and organizations making a real and lasting impact in our community, Do More 24 day of giving is the perfect opportunity.”

This year’s Do More 24 campaign is asking the community to think locally and reclaim kindness by donating to one of the hundreds of participating nonprofits ranging from animal welfare to workforce readiness, environmental causes, financial stability, education, homelessness and housing and many more. It’s also the perfect opportunity for families and groups to reclaim kindness together by raising awareness for a local mentoring program, afterschool program or health clinic.

In its sixth year, Do More 24 has raised more than $7 million to date. The support goes directly towards helping organizations throughout the metro area fill holes in their budgets, buy desperately needed new equipment and ultimately serve more people across the region.
