KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices throughout the United States, is proud to announce that Amanda K. Lafleur, EIT, has been honored as Young Member of the Year by the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE). The national award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the highway and transportation industry and their communities during the early phases of their careers. She was formally recognized at a reception held in Cleveland, Ohio on May 19.

Lafleur has been an active contributing member of ASHE since 2015 after joining the Chesapeake Section. She was instrumental in starting and chairing the younger members committee, which hosts networking events for young professionals in the industry. Lafleur also helps the organization’s hospitality committee to register new members at local chapter meetings and attends board meetings. Her work on the University Outreach committee involves coordination with local institutions, including Morgan State and Johns Hopkins, in an effort to recruit students and encourage their involvement with the organization. Lafleur also recruited a dozen volunteers from ASHE to provide logistical support for the American Diabetes Association’s annual Step Out event in Baltimore.

“Since Amanda started, there has been a notable increase in young members being active in the organization,” says ASHE Chesapeake Section President and KCI project manager Dion K. Ho, PE, “Her contributions have directly benefitted ASHE and the next generation of engineers.” Ho was on hand at the reception to support Amanda and to accept the section award for the largest increase in new members.

Lafleur began working with KCI in 2015 as a senior water resources design engineer and is responsible for stormwater management, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and stream restoration design projects. She contributes towards proposal efforts and progress reports, provides coordination between a number of technical disciplines throughout the project lifecycle, conducts studies, and interprets project data.

Lafleur received her bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is a registered engineer-in-training. Nominated by senior management, she is currently participating in a corporate emerging leadership program that focuses on cultivating management skills. Lafleur is also an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Maryland section, the University of Maryland Engineering Alumni Association and the Maryland Stream Restoration Association.
