Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has reappointed Edward H. Kaplan as a member and chair of the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission (MPBC), the governance board for Maryland Public Television (MPT). The governor also has appointed Bruce A. Wahl to a term on the commission. Wahl replaces Warren A. Green, who served on the MPBC for six years.

The Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission (MPBC) was created by statute in 1966 to establish and maintain a system of educational and cultural television programming for Maryland. The commission holds the federal license for broadcasting stations operated by MPT.

First appointed to the MPBC in 1996, Kaplan was named its chair in 2007. In addition to serving on the commission, he is an ex-officio director of the MPT Foundation, Inc., the station’s 501 (c) (3) fundraising affiliate. Kaplan also is a member of the board of trustees of America’s Public Television Stations (APTS), the nonprofit membership organization that promotes legislative and regulatory interests of noncommercial television stations at the national level.

Kaplan is a real estate developer and entrepreneur actively involved in the fields of technology and new product development, food service, and finance. He currently serves on the boards of many privately held companies. His interests and support extend to community activities including Washington Hospital Center, National Children’s Medical Center, Capital Area Food Bank, Bread for the City, and Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. He is a resident of Potomac, Maryland.

Wahl is senior solutions architect for the Distribution Division at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C., which is responsible for distribution of programming to nearly 1,000 public radio stations across the country. Wahl also has an extensive background as a public servant in a volunteer capacity. He first served on the Chesapeake Beach (Md.) Planning and Zoning Commission prior to becoming a member of the Chesapeake Beach Town Council from 1989 to 2008. He was then elected and served for two terms as town mayor until 2016.

Wahl served as president of the Maryland Municipal League (MML) in 2014-2015and subsequently was awarded the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award. At the conclusion of his local government service in late 2016, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan commissioned Wahl an “Admiral of the Chesapeake Bay” for his significant efforts to protect the bay. Wahl is also a graduate of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2003 and a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He is a resident of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
