Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), the largest provider of pro bono civil legal services to low-income Marylanders, today announced that in the past 12 months, 293 Baltimore City volunteer lawyers provided free services to help Maryland residents overcome their civil legal challenges. MVLS’ network of volunteer attorneys provides services for estate planning, tax controversy, divorce and child custody proceedings, landlord-tenant disputes, bankruptcy, criminal record expungements, as well as many other civil legal challenges.

In the past year, 994 volunteer attorneys assisted 5,730 clients through individual representation or assistance at a clinic. MVLS volunteers closed 3,982 cases and reported 21,695 hours of donated legal services, which are valued at more than $6.5 million.
