Dentons Deepens IP Patent and Litigation Bench with Addition of Three Partners

10/1/18

Dentons, the leading global law firm, today announces the expansion of its award-winning patent and commercial litigation capabilities with the addition of Timothy J. Carroll, Manny J. Caixeiro and Steven M. Lubezny as partners. Carroll and Lubezny join the Intellectual Property and Technology practice and are resident in Chicago, while Caixeiro joins the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice and is located in Los Angeles.

Carroll's extensive body of work in patent and other litigation includes cases involving highly-technical industries such as medical devices, green technologies, mobile apps, location-based services and content management platforms. He counsels emerging technology companies with global business throughout the process of adopting and implementing complaint information management programs, while also advising on litigation readiness initiatives.

Most recently, Carroll secured a significant trade secrets victory on behalf of a defense contractor who sells devices used by fighter pilots. He also secured a marked victory in a case involving a second-generation product, when the first generation of that product was deemed to infringe a patent and resulted in a large damages award. Carroll is known and respected by his clients, colleagues and adversaries for his oral advocacy skills and exceedingly high number of outright litigation wins in the trial and pre-trial settings. He earned his JD from DePaul University College of Law, where he earned admission to the Law Review and served as the President of the Student Bar Association.

"Tim, Manny and Steve’s patent and litigation experience will enhance our ability to provide clients with essential insight into the ever-evolving industry of intellectual property and technology," said Dentons US CEO Mike McNamara. "Our award-winning patent litigation team is only enhanced by augmenting intersecting industry knowledge."

Caixeiro's litigation practice focuses on complex commercial and intellectual property disputes in the financial, software, medical device and entertainment industries. In addition to representing clients in federal and state courts on a wide array of litigation matters, he routinely counsels clients on cross-practice litigation strategy. Notably, Caixeiro has extensive experience litigating patent damages issues and advising clients regarding the value of patent-related assets. Caixeiro, who is admitted in both California and New York, earned his JD from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and an editor of the Business Law Review, and earned his BA from Yale University.

Lubezny's practice focuses on all areas of intellectual property litigation, counseling and prosecution, with a primary focus on patent litigation. He maintains a far-reaching, tech-centric client base that includes medical devices, telecommunications, mobile apps, thermostats and Internet-based business methods. Lubezny holds his JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his BS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This move marks his return to Dentons, where he began in private practice.
