Continental Realty Corp. Hosts Bucknell University Students for Behind-the-scenes Look at Operations of Commercial Real Estate Company

11/12/18

Nearly 25 Bucknell University students spent the day at Continental Realty Corporation (CRC) recently for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the inner workings of a commercial real estate company, an opportunity that also included career advice and a networking session. The “Inside the Business” program is part of the Continental Realty University (CRU) Commercial Real Estate Immersion (CREI) platform. Earlier this year, the company organized two “Beyond Graduation” seminars that were designed to assist current or recently-graduated college students with career planning, interviewing techniques and personal marketing tips.

The day started with an in-depth look at the structure of CRC and a discussion of the company’s real estate investment strategy, followed by an exploration of career alternatives in the business. Next, the students were given a personalized workplace behavior survey to help them match their work style preferences with appropriate career choices in real estate. After a networking lunch in which students were able to interact with team members holding various positions in the industry, the participants toured CRC commercial and multifamily properties to gain a site-level perspective on owning and operating real estate investments.

The CRU Commercial Real Estate Immersion Program also includes the CRU Executive Series which offers training on relevant commercial real estate practices and an inside perspective into investment thesis strategy and other topics, including networking opportunities. CRC is registered with NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.

“We believe students need insightful direction about possible career choices and there is no replacement for observing professionals at work, interacting with them and asking relevant questions,” stated Crystal Frey, Senior Vice President, Human Resources for CRC. “The program leverages the business and real estate experiences of CRC executives to provide guidance to help them make the right decisions. The students from Bucknell University were extremely engaged, inquisitive and poised with many committing to maintain contact with some of our executive team as they advance their own careers. Several commented on the tremendous leadership they witnessed and the teamwork that engenders a successful company.”

Continental Realty Corporation (CRC), headquartered in Baltimore and founded in 1960, is a vertically-integrated owner and operator of multifamily properties with more than 10,000 apartment homes and shopping centers consisting of more than 4 million square feet of space. CRC’s portfolio exceeds $2 billion and is located throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States. CRC has a long and successful track record of investing in these markets and property types.
