Mayer Brown announced today that Tram Nguyen has joined the firm as a partner in its Corporate & Securities practice. Ms. Nguyen will be based in the firm’s Washington DC office and spend substantial time in the growing New York office. Previously, she was a partner at Paul Hastings.
“Tram’s arrival is the latest step in our firm-wide initiative to build and diversify our fund formation practice,” said John W. Noell Jr., the head of Mayer Brown’s global Investment Management and Fund Formation group. “In 2018, we welcomed Aubry Smith, Iliana Kirova and Kristine Koren, who focus on private equity, credit and infrastructure fund sponsors. The addition of Tram brings a dynamic element to our team, particularly in the regulatory compliance environment, which complements Mayer Brown’s existing strengths in private funds and related areas. We are delighted to welcome Tram to the firm as we continue this strong growth.”
Ms. Nguyen represents hedge funds, private equity funds, venture funds and other investment funds in all aspects of fund formation, fund structuring and capital raising. She has extensive experience advising asset managers and financial institutions on complex regulatory matters, including registration, examinations and reporting requirements. Additionally, Ms. Nguyen was the branch chief of the Private Funds Branch at the SEC Division of Investment Management in Washington DC, where she served from 2010 to 2013. At the SEC, she led the development and implementation of the new rules under the Dodd-Frank and JOBS acts for private fund advisors
“I was immediately drawn to Mayer Brown’s investment management platform and the firm’s strategic priority of expanding its already impressive fund formation capabilities,” said Ms. Nguyen. “Mayer Brown is a destination for top talent, and I’m proud to join the team.”
Daniel Masur, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office, added, “Tram’s broad experience in regulatory, deal and strategic matters makes her a perfect addition as we continue to build out our private fund formation team in Washington DC and globally.”
Continuing the consistent growth of the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice, Ms. Nguyen is the 15th partner addition in the last 12 months. Her arrival follows on the heels of significant expansions of the Corporate & Securities practice in Mayer Brown’s Northern California and New York offices, and globally in its London and Hong Kong offices.
