Seasoned private equity executive David M. Marchick has rejoined Covington in its Washington office.
Mr. Marchick provides strategic counsel on complex issues at the intersection of law, policy, and reputational risk. He advises clients on their most challenging and significant strategic matters that involve C-Suite decision-making, drawing upon his experience as Managing Director and Global Head of External Affairs at The Carlyle Group, in senior-level U.S. government positions, and serving on and working with corporate boards of directors. In addition to his work at Covington, Mr. Marchick is also an adjunct professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College where he teaches a course on private equity-related issues.
Mr. Marchick has particular expertise representing multi-national companies on investment and national security issues. He is a top expert on the national security review process undertaken by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). He also has significant experience advising on matters involving corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Mr. Marchick worked for 12 years at The Carlyle Group as Managing Director and Global Head of External Affairs and as a Member of Carlyle’s Management Committee. He led Carlyle’s regulatory and government affairs, communications and branding, and sustainability efforts. Mr. Marchick was a partner at Covington before joining Carlyle, where his practice focused on international trade, CFIUS, transportation, and legislative matters.
Before joining Covington in 2002, Mr. Marchick also held several positions within the Clinton administration, including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Transportation Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade Policy at the State Department, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development. He also served within the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
