Howard County General Hospital Holds ‘Heroes in Health Care’

4/26/19

Howard County General Hospital will hold “Heroes in Health Care,” an evening benefitting the hospital, on Saturday, June 8, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the Kossiakoff Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.

The fundraiser will honor the heroic acts of hospital caregivers in the emergency, intensive care, cardiac catheterization and cardiac rehabilitation departments and will include dinner and dancing to the music of The Junkyard Saints. Guests will also hear from heart-attack survivor Patti Caplan of River Hill in Columbia. Caplan, who retired after 25 years as director of public relations for the Howard County Public School System in 2012, will share her story.

“Once I got into the hands of people who knew what was happening and how to take care of me, I was confident I would come through,” Caplan said. “That is what happened that night. Everyone jumped into action. I realize how fortunate we are to have the incredible medical resources that we have in Howard County, and I feel I am here today because of the great care I received.”

Zack Shariff and Louann Magi-Shariff are the honorary co-chairs of “Heroes in Health Care.” Tickets cost $125, and all proceeds benefit Howard County General Hospital. For more information and sponsorship opportunities, visit www.hcgh.org/heroes or call 410-740-7840.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to honor our life-saving staff, while also raising awareness of the ways the public can help support Howard County General Hospital,” said Jennifer Smith, vice president of development for Howard Hospital Foundation, which supports the hospital. “We are fortunate to live in one of the best areas of the country, and health care is a part of what makes our community great. Heroes in Health Care is one way to join us in our efforts to keep our friends, family and neighbors healthy and have some fun at the same time.”
