As a graduate of the university, he could understand what the men's team was going through. The 2017-18 season was special for the Bears: they had accumulated a 14-5 record, were unbeaten in the conference and had won a seventh straight division title.
But on the cusp of winning a conference title, they fell short to No. 1 seeded South Carolina State University in the finals, 4-2.
