Today, the Nutrition Coalition (TNC), a group that aims to bring rigorous science to nutrition policy, appointed Ted Eytan, MD, MS MPH, as the organization’s Associate Director.

“The Nutrition Coalition is excited to announce Dr. Ted Eytan as our new Associate Director,” said Executive Director Nina Teicholz. “Dr. Eytan’s extensive experience and deep knowledge of nutrition science will be a great asset to our group’s work to ensure that America’s nutrition policies are backed by the most rigorous science and that they apply to all Americans.”

Said Eytan, “I deeply appreciate the opportunity to join the Nutrition Coalition and have a positive impact on the health of all American by creating necessary change in our nation’s nutrition policy.”

“Like many physicians in the United States and around the world, I have become motivated by the unprecedented impact on our society of diet-related disease such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. Thanks to breakthrough work in nutrition over the past decade, we now understand that better nutritional guidance offers great promise in reversing these metabolic conditions. I’m committed to ensuring that these official guidelines reflect this evolving science.

Eytan is a family physician based in Washington, D.C. His clinical interests include preventive care and eliminating disparities in health status among vulnerable populations, including people with diabetes, obesity and other forms of metabolic syndrome. Eytan attended medical school at the University of Arizona, received his Master’s of public health degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his Master’s of science, health services degree from the University of Washington. Prior to joining TNC, Eytan worked as medical director of the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health.

Following Dr. Eytan’s appointment as Associate Director, the Nutrition Coalition has suspended its search for an Executive Director to replace Nina Teicholz. “We were delighted to receive applications from a large number of highly qualified, candidates for that job,” said Teicholz. “Yet we were excited by the opportunity to work with Dr. Eytan, and his appointment allows me to follow through with TNC’s important reform initiatives for the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.”
