Maryland Philanthropy Network Moves to New Home in Hampden

2/26/20

New Offices Outfitted to Welcome Members and Partners and Spark Collaboration

A more spacious, flexible and accessible office location will mean new opportunities for the members of Maryland Philanthropy Network (MPN), a statewide association of more than 130 private and community foundations, intermediaries, corporations, donor-advised funds and public charities.

The organization is moving March 1 to its new, bigger space at 1600 West 41st Street in Hampden— in the Hangar Building, a 30,000-square-foot converted warehouse adjacent to the popular Union Collective—after the sale of its longtime home, the historic Latrobe Building in Mount Vernon. The Hangar Building is Seawall Development’s latest adaptive reuse development. The building, named to honor its prior tenant, Netzer Metalcraft Inc., offers easy highway access, free parking and will help elevate the association’s work and the experience of its members.

MPN’s customized 4,000-square-foot office will feature a polished and comfortable conference room, casual meeting areas, an open kitchen, a gallery space featuring Maryland artists—curated by the Maryland State Arts Council and other partners—and offices for staff and workspaces for members. It also enables technological upgrades to allow MPN to offer benefits such as digital convening, enhancing the ability to communicate and connect with members and partners.

The relocation comes about a year after MPN changed its name from the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers. “Our name change last year provided an opportunity to reassert our statewide focus, and now our upcoming office relocation is offering us a chance to re-imagine the ways we interact with our members,” says Celeste Amato, president.

The Verve Partnership, a woman-owned architecture and design firm, drew inspiration from the concepts of philanthropy and MPN’s values to design the open, inviting space with polished cement floors and warm wood finishes. MacKenzie Contracting Company LLC is leading the interior build and MPN plans to move in later this month.
