GBMC Hosts Cycle & Barre Classes To Benefit The Safe & DV Program On April 10

3/23/21

WHAT: The GBMC Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) and Domestic Violence (DV) Program is the region’s most comprehensive sexual assault, abuse and domestic violence center, offering victim services to patients across their lifespan. This year, in partnership with Core Cycle Studios, GBMC will host a special fundraising event on Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. to raise money for the SAFE & DV Program. The event will include cycle and barre classes that participants can sign up to experience, with proceeds benefiting this crucial community resource. To ensure the safety of all participants, masks will be required at all times, studios are set up for social distancing and all equipment will be sanitized before and after each class.

Laura Clary, RN, FNE-A/P, SANE-A, CPEN, clinical program manager, SAFE & DV
Valerie Weir, BSN, RN, FNE-A/P, CMSRN, program coordinator, SAFE & DV
Core Cycle Studios Instructor

WHERE:

Core Cycle Studios
2080 York Road
Lutherville-Timonium, MD 21093

WHEN: Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11 a.m.

WHY: The GBMC HealthCare System’s collaboration with Core Cycle Studios offers an opportunity to spread awareness and engage the community on the impact of GBMC’s SAFE & DV Program. The 45-minute cycle class will be accessible for any level and will have riders using performance-tracking technology to work off one’s own power zones. The 45-minute barre class will offer a thoughtfully designed class around low-impact exercise, combined with isometric movement. Participants will leave feeling leaner, toned and stronger.

Each class costs $30 per participant. For those wishing to make a greater impact, there is an option to add a $40 donation to fund a Bravery Bag which is given to all who receive treatment at the SAFE & DV unit. Participants can also opt to donate an additional $94 to represent the 94 children who received help from the program in 2020. Due to ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, the classes will have a limit of 20 and 18 participants, respectively.

All proceeds from the classes will benefit GBMC’s SAFE & DV Program. Registered nurses in GBMC’s SAFE & DV Program are specifically trained and certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing to provide services for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in a confidential, non-judgmental atmosphere. At no cost to the patient, these nurses focus on empowering survivors to begin the healing process, in addition to working toward ending sexual assault and intimate partner violence in the community.
