AT&T Back With More Applications Relating To Short Hill Mountain Project

Half a year after AT&T’s unsuccessful plans to build a sprawling, 3.5-acre facility on the top of Short Hill Mountain in northwestern Loudoun, the company is back with more applications related to stormwater management.

Nearby residents say they are worried about the environmental implications the new applications could have on their community, and they also fear the telecom giant is moving forward with its original plan for a so-called “telephone transmission utility substation,” but only this time the facility will be constructed underground. The above-ground plan was voted down by the Board of Supervisors last summer.

“[AT&T is] totally changing what they’re doing up there, possibly with big impacts, new impacts, and [the county’s] allowing them to do it with these minor site plan amendments, waivers … building permits,” said Sam Kroiz, a Lovettsville resident who has remained vocal in opposing the company’s plans on Short Hill.
