The American News Women's Club will honor Susan Page, Washington Bureau Chief of USA TODAY, with its Excellence in Journalism Award May 4 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Page covers the White House and national politics for USA TODAY and is widely considered one of the great political reporters of our era. She has interviewed nine presidents and covered ten presidential campaigns. During a career spanning more than three decades, Page has reported from six continents and dozens of countries and interviewed countless newsmakers.
"In this year when good journalism matters more than ever, we are extremely honored to recognize Susan Page and her extraordinary contributions to journalism. Susan is a professional and a journalism superstar who is highly respected and trusted by her peers, the public and the officials and newsmakers she interviews," said Claire Swift, co-chair of the ANWC's All-Star Evening of Excellence. "As the ANWC celebrates 85 years of women breaking barriers, we could not have selected a more praiseworthy honoree."
Proceeds from the annual benefit provide scholarships for area journalism students, who will also be recognized at the dinner.
The dinner will be emceed by CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Susan Page will be "roasted and toasted" by friends and newsmakers including USA TODAY's Joanne Lipman, Andrea Mitchell and Diane Rehm (also past recipients of the award), Chris Matthews, Derek McGinty and Ben Leubsdorf (her son), among others.
