MPT airs regional Emmy Award ceremony on June 30
The National CapitalChesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) presented Maryland Public Television (MPT) with seven Emmy® Awards during its 59th Emmy gala at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center on Saturday, June 24.
A three-hour broadcast of the Emmy Awards ceremony airs on Friday, June 30 at 8 p.m. on MPT2.
Among the Emmys earned are the prestigious Overall Excellence and Community Service awards. MPT President & CEO Larry D. Unger accepted these award on behalf of the station’s more than 140 employees. “As a public TV station we’re committed to using our air to enrich lives and strengthen communities, and these awards are a wonderful affirmation that we’re fulfilling our mission,” explained Unger.
All told, there were 220 nominations recognizing work in some 120 categories for the 2017 competition. MPT earned Emmy Awards in the following categories:

In the past decade alone, MPT productions and personnel have earned nearly 70 regional Emmys. Since its launch in 1969, Maryland Public Television has also been the recipient of four national Emmy® Awards.
The annual awards competition acknowledges achievement in areas including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming. The regional competition is open to any television station, company, production house, or independent producer in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Sciences was established in 1958 and comprises more than 900 television broadcast professionals dedicated to fostering and recognizing outstanding achievements in television production throughout the National Capital Chesapeake Bay region.
