Larry Unger
America's Public Television Stations (APTS) have announced that Larry D. Unger, Maryland Public Television (MPT) president and chief executive officer, has been elected as an at-large member of the APTS Board of Trustees. He is among seven public TV leaders who began three-year terms as trustees on February 25.
APTS is a nonprofit membership organization ensuring a strong and financially sound public television system, and helping member stations provide essential public services in education, public safety, and civic leadership to the American people.
Unger will also serve a three-year term as a director on the APTS Action, Inc. board. The APTS affiliate promotes the legislative and regulatory interests of noncommercial TV stations at the national level through direct advocacy and through grasstops and grassroots campaigns designed to garner bipartisan political support.
Larry D. Unger is the fifth president in the 50-year history of Maryland Public Television. He has served in this capacity since July 2011. MPT, a $32 million noncommercial broadcasting network headquartered in Owings Mills, is a state licensee member of the Public Broadcasting Service.
Within the public television industry, Unger is a member of the National Educational Telecommunications Association board of directors, former co-chair of the Organization of State Broadcasting Executives, and former chairman and current trustee of American Public Television.
His community service includes his current role as chairman of the Owings Mills Corporate Roundtable.
